Homer called her the daughter of Zeus and Dione.  The Greek Poet Hesiod said she was born of the genitals of Uranus.  Greeks often imagined her to be a goddess from exotic, foreign lands.  Whatever her origin, the beautiful goddess Aphrodite symbolized and believed in love, beauty and sexual rapture.  From her was born the god Eros, Patron of male love, and god of lust, beauty, and intimacy.
